Two years ago today, my youngest daughter’s world was flipped upside down when her husband unexpectedly passed away from an undiagnosed heart problem. She, one of her brothers, and his wife had just returned from a day of Black Friday shopping. On their way home, they witnessed an accident on the highway and spent hours helping those involved. To say they were exhausted when they walked in the door would be an understatement. A few minutes later, we received news that no twenty-three-year-old pregnant woman is ever prepared for. We immediately loaded her in our car with our daughter-in-law in the backseat with her. I made calls to the rest of our children and our parents. Watching my sweet daughter and listening to the anguish in her voice ripped mine and my husband’s hearts to shreds. But even in the worst of moments, I began to see miracles all around us. Before the evening was over, all of our children and their spouses gathered at her home in Central, Utah, and one daughter-in-law was on her way from Germany. Saying goodbye to this beloved son-in-law was heart wrenching. It reminded all of us that life isn’t forever so we need to hug our loved ones a little tighter and hold them a little closer. A month ago, our daughter was blessed to marry a man who loves her and her little boys. He knows her story and he loves her unconditionally. I #givethanks today for Jeremie Higgins having been a part of my family. I #givethanks today for my beautiful daughter and her siblings and their spouses. I #givethanks today for our new son-in-law. I #givethanks today for my wonderful husband who has been such a blessing in my life and the lives of our children and grandchildren. I especially #givethanks for God’s goodness, grace, love, and patience.
