In the past few weeks, I have enjoyed pictures of Christmas trees and decorations that already adorn many homes and yards. I love everything about Christmas—the lights, the smells, the music, the smiles, and, of course, the story of the Baby born in a stable two centuries ago. I am excited to put up my own tree, even though our space is limited.
But I am also looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving. Although Thanksgiving celebrations may look different this year because of mandates and other restrictions, no one can take away our gratitude for those who came before us and sacrificed so much for the freedoms we sometimes forget we have. They can take away the turkey, potatoes, gravy, homemade rolls and honey butter, yummy desserts, and sinks full of dishes. But no one can take away our ability to be thankful unless we allow it.
2020 has been a most remarkable year in ways I could never have imagined back in January when I was determined to hone in on my 20/20 focus. So many speed bumps, road blocks, oncoming trains, and misdirection. So many things that have been out of my control. But it has given me pause and time to ponder on the things that really matter to me. My ability to walk. My ability to breathe. My ability to see. My ability to hear. My ability to feel. With so much wrong around me, there is still so much more that is good; I just have to look a little harder to see it.
